The Kootenay Wildlife Heritage Fund seems to be throwing their support behind local Liberal candidates ahead of May’s Provincial vote.
President Carmen Purdy says the BC NDP cannot be trusted when it comes to wildlife management in the region.
Purdy is speaking after local Liberal candidates Tom Shypitka and Doug Clovechok donated a combined $10,000 this week to feeding efforts for starving elk and deer this winter.
The KWHF suggests record snowfall in some areas and low temperatures has buried natural food sources significantly affecting ungulate populations.
Purdye says they are conducting the feeding program for the first time since the 1996-97 winter when they spread $150,000 worth of hay at 40 regional sites.
The KWHF head claims, 20 years ago, the present NDP tried to arrest him the entire time he was helping the animals access food.
Purdy says action is needed against predators to control deer and elk populations, but the New Democrats don’t understand that.
Stay tuned for reaction from local NDP candidates.
