Cranbrook RCMP has an updated description of a man who allegedly grabbed a young girl walking home from school Tuesday.
Police say the possible suspect is caucasian and could be between 5’8 and 6’0 tall, with short brown hair.
He was wearing jeans, a t-shirt and running shoes.
Staff Sergeant Hector Lee says they are taking the matter very seriously.
Mounties report the incident occurred on a path behind the 1900 block of 12th street south when the seven year old student was walking home from Kootenay Orchard School.
The young girl was able to get away from the man and run home.
Lee says they are following up several tips but ask anyone who was in the 12th St. S area between 2:30-4:30PM Tuesday to call the Cranbrook detachment.
He adds this is a good opportunity to remind parents to talk to their children about so-called “Stranger Danger” and the importance of contacting RCMP as soon as possible if something suspicious occurs.
The incident was only reported to police later on in the afternoon after the child’s mother returned home from work.
