The City of Fernie’s flagship winter event will be featured on Tuesday’s episode of the Rick Mercer Report.
Mercer brought his popular CBC show to the 40th running of Griz Days earlier this month.
It was the first visit to the community for the longtime Canadian comedian who marched in the parade, witnessed the Griz competition and went through with what he describes as a near death experience covering the “Dummy Downhill” event.
Mercer recalls them getting closer to the action for the very last Dummy, only to underestimate it’s flying abilities and have it crash right beside them.
He says he flinched, like always, but his cameraman had nerves of steel and didn’t move a muscle to catch it all on tape.
Mercer suggests the perfect “Report” segment is interesting people, doing something out of the ordinary, in a beautiful part of Canada and Fernie delivered.
The host exclaims he had “a ball” while taking part in the all the festivities and admits he didn’t have to do much work but rather just join in on the celebration.
Mercer also quips he thought they had giant snow banks in his native Newfoundland but they were no match for the piles in Fernie.
The episode airs 8 PM.
