A Kimberley woman hoping to open the city’s third medical marijuana dispensary may turn to the courts after her business license was denied.
Kim Cox is disappointed after council decided to cease issuing licenses for new cannabis based businesses until the federal government legalizes the drug next year.
She says the city previously gave her a license for Releaf Dispensaries in November of 2016, only to revoke the decision after the business incorporated and changed locations at the suggestion of council.
In a statement, Cox says “the city should treat all citizens equally and fairly, and not prefer some business over others.”
Kimberley was the first community in Canada to issue a business license to a dispensary in 2014 and currently has two licensed to operate at this time.
