A new Corporal with the Kimberley RCMP will help relieve staffing pressure within the detachment
So says Sergeant Chris Newel, as the city welcomes Corporal Kate Bamber to the ranks the last week of June.
He says police in the community have been dealing with resource issues, due to illness and other factors.
“We’re struggling a bit over this period of time, but yet in a few months, we have members slated to come in,” Newel says. “Hopefully we’ll be up to speed within the short time they’re off and short-term issues to deal with. It can put a little stress on the members who are working.”
While Newel wouldn’t specify how many staff are patrolling Kimberley, he said they are well below the maximum of ten officers.
“The establishment technically has ten staff members. That’s what it would be at full strength,” Newel says. “We’re considerably less than that at this time.”
He expects more staff to arrive in the Bavarian City sometime in Late August.
