A project over four years in the making is about to make a splash in Kimberley.
The city’s new splash park will officially open 1 pm Sunday, after the local Rotary Club successfully raised over $300,000.
Fundraising lead Sandra Roberts says parents throughout the community have been waiting a long time for this addition.
“A lot of families with little people aren’t inclined with opportunities at the swimming pool. The little kids aren’t necessarily taking swimming lessons and so on,” Roberts says. “So along with the play park, its a real natural addition to have the splash park right there.”
Roberts says over 1,000 kids are expected to use the attraction each summer.
“It gives parents a place for the little ones to come, its free,” Roberts says. “We’re very proud of the fact that we installed wheelchair friendly picnic tables, so that’s an option for people with disabled children. It just fills a real niche in the community that hasn’t been filled before.”
A plaque will be unveiled at the grand opening in Rotary Park, recognizing the contributions of the top donors to the project.
