The RDEK is pleading with the public to be smart after what are believed to be two human-caused fires in the region this weekend.
The Regional District applauds the efforts of the BC Wildfire Service and City of Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services for dousing an interface fire Sunday near Jim Smith Lake.
10 firefighters from Cranbrook supported provincial counterparts for over three and a half hours.
In addition, Columbia Valley crews dealt with a human-caused fire near Radium over the weekend.
The RDEK is pleading with the public to be vigilant to prevent as the fire danger rating in our area is currently high to extreme.
They also point out it is important for residents to also know how to report fires as there’s potential for a dry thunderstorm system to move through our region Monday.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation you can call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
