Fire crews are trying to get control over a one hectare wildfire burning north of Skookumchuk.
An initial attack crew of five firefighters have responded to the blaze on the Johnson Forest Service Road.
Karlie Shaughnessy with the Southeast Fire Centre says they don’t consider it a wildfire of note.
“It is located in a remote area 20 kilometres south of Canal Flats, just on the west side of Highway 95/93,” Shaughnessy says. “Its burning in the forest, not threatening any structures or communities.
Shaughnessy says the blaze is believed to be lightning caused.
Four other spot fires are currently burning in the region, with two believed to be person-caused.
All of them are less than a hectare in size.
Two are near Yahk, one is burning north of Fernie and another at Nine Mile Creek near Canal Flats.
