A local girl from the Ktunaxa Nation has been training hard in preparation for the 2017 North American Indigenous Games.
16-year old Caytlyn Luke will be competing in the U17 golf event this week in Toronto.
Luke says she has been training hard both mentally and physically for the big tournament.
“I like to golf at least four times a week. I golf with my brothers, I went out with the ladies twice this season to prepare myself even more.” says Luke.
She explains the conditioning for the event goes beyond practicing her golf game.
“I make sure that I’m eating healthy and this week I started to go to bed three hours earlier and wake up three hours earlier to get myself prepared for the timezones.”
She will be taking on other Indigenous golfers from the Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Washington and Wisconsin.
Luke will get her tournament started Tuesday at the Humber Valley Golf Course in Toronto.
Local athlete Hana Braker and the Team BC U19 softball team get their week started today at 3 PM against New York.
