The Kootenay ICE front office is working hard to make sure they’re prepared for the beginning of the season.
The team’s hockey operations meetings kicked off last week at St. Eugene Mission Resort.
President & GM Matt Cockell, head coach James Patrick, associate coach Jon Klemm and the rest of the hockey ops staff were in attendance.
James Patrick says he has an idea of how he wants the team to play and a big goal for the coaches is to make sure they reach full potential.
“I think the process, getting to the process and improving the process, if we focus on that there will be some wins.” says Patrick. “The wins will take care of themselves.”
Meanwhile, the message from President and GM Matt Cockell was clear – this team belongs to everyone in the Kootenays.
Cockell says one of the main discussions at the meetings over the past week was fan experience.
The ICE announced a partnership with the Kimberley Dynamiters last week that includes ticket discounts for loyal fans.
ICE season ticket holders receive 15% discounts at Dynamiters games and Kimberley season ticket holders get the same discount for ICE games.
Cockell says they are going to continue to reach out to communities across the Kootenays to make sure everyone is included.
“We’re trying to get out as our staff has grown and has more of those discussions.” explains Cockell. “We hope to create more partnerships ideally [with] Fernie, Creston, Invermere, Nelson, Sparwood, you name it – we feel that is ICE country.”
The regular season is now under two months away with the ICE hosting the Calgary Hitmen on September 22nd.
