Cranbrook Fire Service will now be responding to fires outside of the city due to the dry conditions in our region.
Monday night city council amended a by-law that extends the boundaries for local firefighters.
Mayor Lee Pratt says this decision is extremely important due to the current hot and dry weather.
“Cranbrook is surrounded by forest and we’ve seen what happened in Fort McMurray and what’s going on in the Cariboo area right now is very scary.” says Mayor Pratt. “We’re just trying to be proactive and hopefully prevent anything like that from happening here.”
No significant fires are burning in our region although Cranbrook Fire Service responded to a small fire near Jim Smith Lake last week.
