The Liberal MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke wants to get down to business in the BC legislature.
NDP Premier John Horgan is British Columbia’s 36th premier, after officially being sworn in Tuesday with his new cabinet and the first New Democrat government in 16 years.
Doug Clovechok wants to make sure what he calls ‘an unstable NDP-Green alliance’ is responsible for their actions.
“We’re going to hold them to account on behalf of British Columbians from all regions of our province,” Clovechok says. “When people make promises, we need to make them accountable for those promises. If they look at raising taxes on the middle class, we’ll stand up for those jobs and the economy.”
Clovechok didn’t attend the swearing-in ceremony, preferring to meet with constituents in his riding.
He wants to bring a focus to rural issues in Victoria.
“My focus right now is taking care of all the things here in Columbia River-Revelstoke,” Clovechok says. “I’ve asked my legislative assistant already when things settle this week, I’d like to have meetings with those Ministers, so I can outline the issues from Revelstoke to Kimberley.”
Clovechok feels wildfire relief efforts must be the new government’s first priority.
