The City of Fernie is putting water restrictions in place as residents are currently using twice as much as normal during peak hours.
The municipality says it’s committed to water conservation and wants the public’s help reducing consumption through summer months.
Communications Officer Liz Rhodes says the decision comes after a long stretch of hot and dry weather causing drought-like conditions.
Rhodes says they are currently seeing usage during peak hours double average levels.
Even-numbered addresses are asked to water lawns on even numbered calendar days and odd-numbered addresses are to water on odd numbered days.
The restrictions do not include the watering of flowers and vegetable gardens.
