Cranbrook’s best baseball players were in the spotlight during the annual Bandits awards banquet.
The coaching staff decided the players would vote on all the awards this year for the first time ever.
Team MVP for the ‘A’ team was awarded to catcher and third basemen Robert Nickell – who also won Defensive Player of the Year.
Cedar Kemp shared Offensive Player of the year with Carson Meggison – who also won Most Dedicated Player.
Head Coach Paul Mrazek says Meggison is a very hard worker.
“He’s there early, he’s helping with getting things organized, getting the field set up and he’s ready to go at the start.” says Mrazek.
Japanese International student Tatszuki Ishihara earned Rookie of the Year.
Mrazek says the young shortstop is a natural talent.
“He’s about the fifth Japanese player I’ve had over the years.” says Mrazek. “He fit in great, players loved him and it was really clear from the voting. He won hands down.”
Brandon Thorn and Dan Mercandelli shared Pitcher of the Year.
Cranbrook Bandits ‘B’ winners included Braiden Koran, Cameron Reid, Carter Marlow and Drake Simek.
The Bandits will be holding a Fall program and will have more details available soon.
