More than 10 new fires started in the East Kootenay Thursday.
This from the Regional District of East Kootenay who say lightning storms over the last three days and extremely dry conditions have led to the local increase.
The biggest of these is a 200 hectare wildfire near the Lodgepole Forest Service Road east of Elko.
There have also been numerous blazes less than a hectare in size, include a lightning-caused fire 0.01 hectares in size near Gold Creek.
