An RDEK Director says she hopes to address provincial marijuana legislation through her new role with the Union of BC Municipalities.
Area F Director Wendy Booth was elected chair of the UBCM executive.
She says working on regulating all uses of cannabis will matter to the East Kootenay.
“They are seeking input right now and consultation. I’m not sure how long that’s going to be open for, but once that’s closed, then they’re going through all that material and finding out what people want, what the impacts are and then coming up with a framework to implement them,” Booth says. “With the cannabis legislation in particular, we have until July 2018, so the timeline is tight to come up with a Made in BC framework that works for local government.”
Booth also hopes to bring more attention to affordable housing.
She previously served as First and Second Vice President and Director at Large for the UBCM Executive for the past five years.
Invermere Mayor Gerry Taft also serves as a Director at Large.
