The Kootenay ICE (3-5-1-0) are back in the win column after a seesaw 5-3 victory over the Everett Silvertips (4-7-0-0) Saturday night.
Kootenay held the lead into the third period but surrendered two early into the final frame to give Everett the 3-2 lead.
But it was the grind of the fourth line that was able to tie it up for the ICE with a goal from Michael King.
Vince Loschiavo gave Kootenay the lead midway through the third and de Wit sealed it with an empty netter to give the ICE a 5-3 win.
Captain Cale Fleury returned to the ICE lineup tonight after a three-game suspension.
“I thought we showed a lot of character battling back like that.” says Fleury. “We didn’t get down on ourselves, we just tried to get going and it worked out for us.”
Head Coach James Patrick says it was a gutsy effort to come back.
“I thought our neutral zone defence was way better.” says Patrick. “We weren’t letting guys get behind us [and] created a lot of turnovers and were able to attack them and get into their zone.”
Forward Colton Veloso says it was nice to get back in the win column.
“I thought the past couple games we were doing a lot of things right just weren’t getting the result we wanted.” says Veloso. “We knew we wanted to come out with a hard start tonight so that was our focus and I felt like we did a good job of that.”
The ICE were unable to produce on the power play although their chances were limited at 0 for 2.
Everett out-shot Kootenay 40-32.
The ICE are back in action Tuesday night hosting the Moose Jaw Warriors.
