The Kootenay ICE continue to be a challenging team at Western Financial Place.
Kootenay outlasted the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night in a massive 5-4 overtime win.
Head Coach James Patrick says the two linemates are starting the gel together nicely.
“I think Colton is a high-end two-way player in this league.” says Patrick. “He can on a nightly basis match up or outplay some of the supposed players in the league…I think him and Alec Baer have developed some great chemistry.”
After being clobbered 11-1 in Medicine Friday, Patrick says says to bounce back and get a win shows character.
“We just found a way.” explains Patrick. “I thought we out-chanced them and played really well defensively. The second half of the game [we] really didn’t give them much, I was pretty proud of the guys.”
Kroeker also reached a milestone in his WHL career on Saturday when he earned his 100th WHL point assisting Cale Fleury’s first goal of the night.
“It’s good to have but I couldn’t have done it without my team.” says Kroeker.
The ICE are now 4-2-1-0 at home this season.
“We’ve played three pretty good games at home in a row and I think this one was our best one.” says Patrick. “I’m hoping we can learn and we can build off it and then I think it starts to sink in if we pay attention to details, play our system and do the little things.”
The ICE will look to build off their three-game home winning streak on Tuesday when they host the Regina Pats.
