A $200,000 campaign to purchase equipment for regional hospitals is underway.
The East Kootenay Foundation for Health launched their Starlite Campaign Wednesday.
Executive Director Brenna Baker says their focus this year is making a dent on a $3 million fundraising gap at local facilities.
“We have five hospitals under our umbrella, there’s five longterm care homes and then numerous other facilities like community nursing,” Baker says. “What we’re looking at funding is all the items under $5,000 and there’s a lot of need for that in our area.”
Executive Director Brenna Baker says healthcare workers have put together a list of items to purchase throughout the region.
“They range anywhere from blood pressure cuffs to wheelchairs, the Green Home needs a bed where family members can stay with residents if they have to stay overnight,” Baker says. “There’s stethoscopes, there’s pumps and monitors that are needed. Its pretty much everything under the sun.”
The EKFH raised $575,000 through last year’s Starlite campaign, securing donations for a permanent MRI in Cranbrook.
