Our region’s highway maintenance contractor says it’s focusing on primary routes as snowfall tapers off in the East Kootenay.
Stable conditions are expected over the next couple of days as the current storm system passes through.
Mainroad says drivers can expect compact snow to remain on roads until temperatures rise above -10 degrees.
The contractor says higher temperatures are needed for de-icing operations.
Road crews are currently sanding and plowing major highways before turning their attention to school bus routes and side roads throughout the weekend.
