Only one game for the Kimberley Dynamiters and Fernie Ghostriders over the weekend.
Fernie rode into Beaver Valley and notched the Nitehawks 4-2 Saturday.
A red-hot power play was the key for the Riders as they managed to score three times in seven opportunities.
Brendan Nemes posted a hat trick on the road while captain Mitch Titus registered three assists on the night.
Keelan Saworski extended his point streak to nine games with a goal and two assists versus the Nitehawks.
Meanwhile, the Dynamiters took the Castlegar Rebels into double overtime but would eventually fall 5-4 on home ice Saturday night.
Head Coach Derek Stuart says they have to be more physical if they want to win those close games.
“[There was] a lot of fly-bys and not enough finished checks [and] not enough guys driving to the middle of the ice.” says Stuart. “There wasn’t much desire to get in the dirty areas in the first two periods.”
The Nitros were down 4-2 after two periods and were being outshot 24-18 after the second frame.
Stuart says a slow start dug them into a hole early on.
“Overall we deserved to lose if you take the whole game into account.” explains Stuart. “If you take the third and most of the overtime I thought we deserved to win but unfortunately that’s less than the whole game and we deserved to lose.”
This was Kimberley’s first loss at the Civic Centre since last year’s playoff run.
Nicholas Ketola had a night to remember as he netted a hat trick accounting for 3 of the 4 Dynamiters goals on the night.
Matt Davies also had a three point night climbing to within one point of Creston’s Liam Plunkett for the Eddie Mountain Division scoring lead.
Elsewhere in the Eddie Mountain the Columbia Valley Rockies split a pair of games falling 3-2 to Castlegar on Friday and running over Grand Forks 9-2 on Saturday.
The Creston Valley Thunder Cats continue to gain ground on the division-leading Dynamiters after besting Beaver Valley 1-0 on Friday and topping Golden 6-2 on Saturday.
Kimberley and Fernie will renew their rivalry for the first time this season at the Elk Valley Leisure Centre in Sparwood Tuesday night.
