Over 100 people from the mining and natural resource sectors will be in Cranbrook this week.
The three-day Minerals South Conference and Trade Show starts Tuesday.
East Kootenay Chamber of Mines President Jason Jacob says experts from the industry have a chance to talk about major issues, including access to the landbase.
“We have only so much that we can extract the minerals that we want and need,” Jacob says. “Its becoming tighter and tighter with restrictions pertaining to parks and non-restricted areas, basically political aspects of things that the industry has to deal with day to day.”
Jacob says there are great opportunities for residents, including two presentations open to the public.
“The first talk is by Guy Santucci and its on the geology and paleontology of the East Kootenay. So its talking about a lot of our fossils and trilobytes that we have in our area,” Jacob says. “The second talk is by Paul Ransom and its geology of the Sullivan.”
Jacob adds a display including local fossils is also open to the community.
The event includes over 30 technical talks and gives industry members an opportunity for networking.
