Police in Invermere want drivers to slow down around local parks.
Residents have approached local RCMP and government with concerns motorists are not obeying the speed limit in playground zones.
Sergeant Bob Vatamaniuck says it’s harder to stop in winter months which could result in tragedy.
“The kids are having fun in the playground, sometimes their minds are elsewhere other than their situation,” Vatamaniuck says. “So its imperative for the drivers just to be extra cautious and vigilant around there.”
He says children can suddenly dart onto the road when least expected.
Vatamaniuck says officers will have an increased presence around playgrounds.
The speed limit drops to 30 kilometres an hour in these areas.
