A promise, real or not, of $7.5 million to Kimberley hockey is hampering fundraising efforts for the local minor association.
This from President Curtis McLaren who said in a statement members are being refused donations because people assume they’ll benefit from a pledge made by local Mike Gould last month.
Gould announced before an Oct.13th local KIJHL game in Kimberley that he would be committing the millions of dollars to the Dynamiters and local minor hockey.
Both groups have come forward in the last couple of days to say they have yet to receive any funds from Mr. Gould.
McLaren says they haven’t been promised a dime by anyone and said in an e-mail to the Drive FM newsroom he would not comment further on the issue.
He wrote “to clarify any misconceptions going around the community and that would be as far as we would go”.
McLaren stated in the release the association relies heavily on donations and grants to keep minor hockey affordable for local families.
The KMHA President adds they would like to thank all of the local businesses and sponsors who support the association and ask the public for its continued backing, despite any news about potential major donations.
