The Kootenay ICE have named Colton Kroeker the 22nd captain in franchise history.
The 20-year old centreman was chosen after Cale Fleury was traded to the Regina Pats one week ago.
Kroeker is a player that Head Coach James Patrick has spoken very highly of all season long.
The new captain says he gets a lot of leadership support from assistant captain’s Brett Davis, Dallas Hines and Vince Loschiavo.
“There’s definitely a couple of our guys that I could say are good leaders for us.” says Kroeker. [Davis, Hines and Loschiavo] are all great leaders, all great players, love playing beside them. Honestly it doesn’t take a letter to be a leader, we have a lot of guys in the room that do that to.”
Kroeker says he’s a player that tries to lead by example.
“I try to speak my mind as much as possible especially on the ice as well.” says Kroeker. “I try to lead the way and hopefully I can keep doing that.”
The 20-year old centreman leads Kootenay in scoring with 19 points in 20 games.
The WHL veteran will sport the “C” for the first time Tuesday night when the ICE take on the Portland Winterhawks.
