The Kootenay ICE Hockey Club is pleased to announce it’s signed 2002-born forward Owen Pederson.
The ICE selected the Stony Plain, Alberta native in the fifth round (89th overall) in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
The 15-year-old is currently playing for the OHA Edmonton Prep of the CSSHL. Through 13 games, Pederson has one goal and five points. During the 2016-17 season, Pederson recorded 15 goals and 34 points in 30 regular season games with the OHA Edmonton Bantam Prep.
“We have seen Owen play a number of times since training camp and every time he has taken a step, we are very happy with his development,” said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager. “This is an exciting day for Owen and the ICE.”
With Friday’s announcement, the ICE have signed five of their top six draft picks from the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft – Connor McClennon (first round, second overall), Anson McMaster (second round, 23rd overall), James Form (third round, 45th overall), Will Gurski (fourth round, 72nd overall) and Owen Pederson (fifth round, 89th overall).
