The Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce says the new Westjet service out of YXC is monumental.
Executive Director David Hull believes Friday’s announcement will have major benefits for the local business community.
The airline will start a three times a day route to Calgary and back to the Canadian Rockies International Airport March 7th.
He actually goes as far to say it’s really everything.
The Chamber head submits we are a long ways away from a lot of places if you’re driving.
However, soon we will be only 45 minutes from Calgary and roughly an hour and a half to Vancouver.
Hull proposes, from there, the world is your oyster.
WestJet says it will have introductory rates to Calgary for $92 after taxes.
They also note East Kootenay residents will be able to fly to Toronto from Cranbrook for a one way rate of $142 after taxes.
Hull says the beauty for local companies of having an early morning flight out of Cranbrook is you can get into Calgary or even Toronto at a reasonable hour and still get part of a business day in.
So for the business community, Hull adds, it’s really important to get those start of the day and end of the day connections.
