It has been an up and down year for the East Kootenay Men’s Resource Centre.
The agency started at the beginning of 2017 with an approximate $80,000 annual operating budget, the lion’s share coming from the the Columbia Basin Trust.
However, Project Manager Steven Baker says the money is gone.
Baker suggests in other province’s these types of services have been funded by the Ministry of Health but their grant applications to the BC Government have been unsuccessful.
So, they are turning to the community for donations.
He says their ultimate goal is to secure reliable government funding to sustain programs for vulnerable men in the region.
However, Baker points out at this point, if they don’t receive some significant source of funding soon they’ll have to shut their doors.
The Men’s Resource Centre helps males dealing with issues such as domestic violence, substance abuse and homelessness.
Baker says stay tuned for announcements about fundraising initiatives.
The Men’s Centre works closely with the Women’s Resource Centre in Cranbrook.
