Mounties confirm it was an unfounded threat that caused a scene in downtown Cranbrook Thursday.
RCMP said earlier there was no threat to public safety after a large number of officers responded to an incident at the Service BC building around 3PM.
Approximately half a dozen vehicles surrounded the block of Cranbrook St N between 1 St N and 2 St N.
A 25-year old man was located by Cranbrook RCMP with the help of East Kootenay Traffic Services, Police Dog Service and the Crime Reduction Unit and taken into custody without incident.
Employees were reportedly sent out of the building but there are no reported injuries.
“The Cranbrook RCMP was extremely fortunate to have many resources assist in this investigation. No matter the circumstances, people need to take a step back before saying or doing something that might jeopardize others safety and put the public in a state of lock down as it was yesterday. We are thankful we were able to arrest this individual as quickly as we did”, says Cst. Katie Forgeron of the Cranbrook RCMP.
The male, a 25 year old resident of Cranbrook, has been released on a court date early next year.
