The Kootenay ICE (15-17-2-0) swept a home and home series against the Calgary Hitmen (10-18-4-1) this weekend.
The ICE showed resiliency in Sunday’s matinee at the Scotiabank Saddledome down 3-2 with less than three minutes remaining but Alec Baer tied it up and sent the game to extra time.
Jonathan Smart netted the game winner just 30 seconds into overtime from Colton Kroeker and Baer.
Michael King and Cameron Hausinger also put biscuits in the basket for the ICE Sunday.
Baer and Kroeker both had a two-point game in the winning effort while netminder Duncan McGovern turned aside 18 of 21 Hitmen shots to improve his record to 4-3-1-0 this season.
Kootenay defeated Calgary 5-1 one night prior in Cranbrook on Toque, Mitten and Teddy Bear Toss night.
Kootenay is now tied with the Lethbridge Hurricanes for second place in the Central Division, six points behind Medicine Hat for the division lead.
