Just how much snow fell on our region in the past 24 hours?
Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist is providing initial measurements for the East Kootenay with most seeing 20-30 cm from the recent storm that rolled through the Interior.
Lunquist explains Sparwood received approximately 16 cm, Cranbrook’s airport is reporting 23 cm and higher elevations like the Kootenay Pass got more than 30 cm.
Lundquist says their Elk Valley recording system is located in Sparwood, so they don’t have exact measurements but Fernie could be under upwards of 30 cm too.
No daily records were broken in the region.
Lundquist suggests that’s it for snowfall but an arctic air mass is moving in pushing overnight lows down to between -15 and -20 degrees by the weekend.
