A local girl has been signed to the Golden Rockets.
15-year old goaltender Izzy Palumbo was penciled into the Rockets roster last week as an affiliate player.
Palumbo currently plays for the Revelstoke Midget Tier three team.
She says she started playing net at the age of seven.
“This is kind of what I’ve been working up to and [I hope to play] here and then hopefully somebody else sees me and if I can keep going with boys hockey the NHL level would be great.” says Palumbo.
Palumbo says she wants to be a role model for other girls that want to play high level hockey.
“Lots of people think just because you’re a girl that you can’t continue with boys hockey or keep playing boys but it proves that anybody can play in boys hockey and keep going with it.” says Palumbo.
She says the players on the team have been very welcoming.
“I didn’t get too much of a chance to talk to them because we’ve been on the ice most of the time but the ones that did come up and talk to me were super nice boys and they were really nice about everything, welcoming me onto the team and everything like that.”
Golden is currently having an abysmal season sitting dead last in the KI with a 1-26-1-2 record.
Palumbo says she wants to see some action this season with the Rockets in hopes she can spark a successful junior career.
