Reductions are being made to a commuter service between Invermere and Calgary.
Susan Clovechok with the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce says the bus will now only run every other Thursday.
“We’ve decided to eliminate the Wednesday route and just do Thursdays every other week until April,” Clovechok says. “At that time, we will review. We are considering going Thursday every week.”
Clovechok says transit has yet to pay for itself after operating for five months and does not justify multiple trips per week.
“We don’t have the ridership to sustain it financially in toward the summer,” Clovechok says. “When we look at the ridership numbers, we see that most of the riders travel on Thursdays and we’ve only one person take advantage of going in Wednesday, coming back Thursday.”
She says they hope to change to a weekly service with Olympus Stage Lines starting April 12th.
Clovechok called it a benefit for residents of both cities and hopes to continue the route for at least one year.
