Cranbrook RCMP believes a man arrested in the Boundary region for allegedly breaking into mailboxes may be responsible for similar offences in our area.
Cst. Katie Forgeron explains there’s been an increase in thefts from local community mailboxes over the last two months.
A suspect was arrested by Christina Lake RCMP last week in connection to an incident involving mail theft in Castlegar.
Forgeron says they are working with several other detachments across the Interior to potentially link that suspect to a number of offences.
She says it is tough to gather all the information in cases like these but they have great relationships with Mounties across the province, so they are working to establish a timeline with what they consider to be a traveling criminal who they believe has been in all of these areas.
Other incidents have been reported in Kimberley and Nelson.
Forgeron adds they’re considering criminal charges of possession of stolen property and theft of mail.
