The Fernie Ghostriders were roughed up 6-2 by the Columbia Valley Rockies Tuesday night.
Riders’ captain Mitch Titus opened the scoring just past the halfway mark of the first period with his 50th point (19 G, 31 A) on the campaign.
However, Columbia Valley stormed back with three straight goals in the second period.
Fernie’s Jace Woodley would pull his team within one by fooling Rockies’ netminder Joshua King with a single second left in the frame, but that last just nine seconds into the third when Columbia Valley forward Robert Butterwick rushed in from the face off and restored the two goal lead.
The Rockies found the back of the net two more times in the final 20 minutes to improve their record to 4-1-1-1 against Fernie this season.
The two teams travel to Sparwood Friday for the second half of the home and home series.
It will be the final meeting of the season between the Eddie Mountain division rivals and the fourth place Ghostriders sit 14 points back of the third seed Rockies.
Fernie finishes the regular season with nine straight games against divisional opponents and six of those contests are versus teams ahead in the standings.
