BC Hydro says equipment failure was the cause of an outage that forced nearly 2,000 customers in Cranbrook to start their day in the dark Thursday.
The outage occurred at 5:55 AM and was restored just after 9 AM.
Spokesperson Sally MacDonald says it took crews several hours to find the fault because of how dense the area is.
MacDonald explains it was an insulator that fail at the corner of 2nd St S and 12th Ave.
She adds crews will need to continue to make repairs throughout the day and a handful of customers in the area can expect a series of short outages this afternoon.
MacDonald points out the outage had nothing to do with the weather, but rather these outages have occurred in Cranbrook in the past.
She says the provincial utility is planning to conduct upgrades in the near future to address these issues.
