The Kootenay ICE face off against the Tri-City Americans on Friday.
The Americans are the only team the ICE have yet to face this season.
Forward Colton Veloso is familiar with Tri-City from his time in Portland.
“They’re a big, strong team so I think we have to be physical.” says Veloso. “We have to stand out ground, we can’t be stick-checking, we have to play them hard.”
Veloso says the Kennewick club is strong on both ends of the ice.
“They’ve got some great talent up front and on the back end as well so it’s going to be a tough game but we’re ready and we’re excited.” explains Veloso.
Veloso has eight points in his last eight games and scored his 50th career goal Wednesday versus Saskatoon.
The ICE are losers of three straight while the Americans have strung together back-to-back wins.
Kootenay has lost eight of its last 10 games and have been outscored 42-25 over that stretch.
The ICE played Tri-City twice in pre-season action and lost 7-0 and 6-0.
Kootenay continues to fight for playoff position with Red Deer. Both teams are tied for the third and final spot in the Central Division but Kootenay holds the tie-breaker with more regulation wins.
A special presentation will be made before the game by Kootenay ICE Governor Greg Fettes to the Canadian Mental Health Association Kootenays Branch. If the game is sold out the ICE will donate an additional $25,000 to the organization.
Friday’s game can be heard on The Drive starting with the pre game show at 6:35.
