The annual Griz Days festival gets underway in Fernie Friday.
Organizer Kendra Downey says the three day event is now in its 41st year.
She says it showcases the spirit of the city in a unique way.
“There’s lots of winter festivals around BC, but I really love that at Griz Days everyone gets dressed up and embraces the Griz,” Downey says. “Everyone is true winter lovers here.”
Downey says the celebration is inclusive of the entire community and a perfect fit for outdoor enthusiasts.
“Its not just for kids or for adults,” Downey says. “I think when Griz Days comes around, the whole town gets excited and then we try to involve everyone in the community.”
Activities planned include the Extreme Griz Competition, which puts residents through a number of challenges in the elements.
Other highlights include a lumberjack show and the Dummy Downhill event at Fernie Alpine Resort.
You can find more information on the event’s website.
