The Kimberley Dynamiters are the 2018 Kootenay Conference Champions.
The Nitros ousted the Nelson Leafs 2-1 in double-overtime Friday to take the series four games to two.
Kimberley’s Cooper Page scored the OT winner.
“I was in the high slot and squeaked out to the right post and the puck ended up just bouncing right to me and I just kind of put it in in slow motion under his shoulder.” says Page. “It was a pretty surreal moment.”
Page says it feels good to get past the third round after getting beat out by Beaver Valley in last year’s conference final.
“We have a really good team here this year and as a vet, last year losing in the conference final some of us wanted some revenage there and although it wasn’t the same team it’s definitely nice to get past that round.” says Page. “Now onto the KI finals where we hope to do big things.”
Page was second in team scoring in the third round with four goals and five assists. Only Mason Palaga had more points in the Kootenay Conference Final with four goals and six assists.
The Dynamiters take on Revelstoke in the finals after the Grizzlies beat Osoyoos 4-1 Sunday night in Game 7 of the Okanagan Shuswap Conference Finals.
It’s the third time in four years the Nitros will play for a seat in the Cyclone Taylor Cup, BC’s Junior B Hockey Championships.
