The Kimberley Dynamiters Peewee team is BC Champions.
The mini-Nitros swept through the competition at the Tier 4 Provincials in Invermere last week.
Kimberley won 7-0 over Vanderhoof in the Championship game.
Head Coach Mike Reid says it was an honour to work with such a special group of kids.
“We set a goal at the start of the year that this is what we wanted to accomplish and we worked hard to get there.” says Reid. “All three lines, all of our defence and goaltending was strong all weekend and we’re very happy that we were able to accomplish that and bring the first championship back to Kimberley in 25 years.”
Reid says he’s very proud of the work the team put in all season.
“We played a very fast, puck-possesion style of game which is probably odd being a smaller centre.” says Reid. “We were hard to play against and our captains are the hardest working group of kids you could ever have around and they just led the way all year and finished off in style at the provincial championships.”
Kimberley outscored the competition 47-2 in six games in the tournament including four shut outs.
The last Kimberley Minor Hockey team to win a provincial title was the Peewee team of 1993.
Dynamiters Assistant Coach Jeff Keiver played on that very Peewee team 25 years ago.
Reid hopes all the players on the Nitros Peewee team this season move on to play on the East Kootenay ICE Bantam Tier 1 team in the seasons to come.
