Two teams in the Eddie Mountain Division are teaming up for a spring camp.
The Fernie Ghostriders and Creston Valley Thunder Cats host a Junior Prep Showcase in Edmonton this coming weekend.
Ghostriders Head Coach Jeff Wagner says they’re expecting a strong group of potential recruits.
“A lot of guys [have] to come in there and make a statement and find their identity as a player.” says Wagner. “As a team, we’re looking to fill certain holes for next season and guys that come into camp need to establish themselves right away and jump off the page for those that are evaluating them.”
The Okotoks Bisons of the Heritage Junior B League also joins the Riders and T-Cats for the camp.
Wagner says having multiple teams in the camp gives players more flexibility.
“It definitely brings in an element for players that are looking to make the jump to the junior level whether it’s in Alberta or BC.” says Wagner. “Having multiple teams there really gives them an opportunity to look at multiple avenues when it comes to junior hockey.”
Players born between 1998 and 2003 have a chance to show off their skills as well as participate in exit interviews with all three teams.
The Ghostriders finished fourth of five in the Eddie Mountain Division last season with a 15-28-1-3 record while Creston Valley finished second with a record of 32-12-2-1.
Wagner, who was recently hired as the Ghostriders’ new bench boss, previously spent time as Assistant Coach in Creston.
