A long-time local resident is taking it upon himself to raise money for Cranbrook’s Women’s Resource Centre.
Blaze Dobson has been involved in the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser for the past four years to raise awareness about violence against women.
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser will not go ahead this year, after being part of the Sam Steele Days parade for the past six years.
That’s not stopping Dobson from supporting the cause on his own.
“Gender violence is very real and a lot of people don’t realize the scale of how high it is out there,” Dobson says. “Not just for women, but for children too. The women’s centre does support children.”
Dobson has organized a GoFundMe page and is hoping to raise $1,000, with all donations received going to the Women’s Centre.
Dobson says its essential to help women and children in need of support.
“I’ve been doing this for four years now and this has become a passion of mine for stopping gender violence,” Dobson says. “I still want to do something with it and show my dedication by doing my own fundraiser out of this.”
