The president of College of the Rockies is pleased with last week’s announcement from the BC Government about funding for one of the school’s programs.
David Walls says it’s important to invest in Early Childhood Care programming. “It’s great to be able to have more funding from the province particularly around early childhood is very important. As we’re aware, there’s such a shortage of daycare space and the need for educated people to work in them, so it’s fantastic news.”
The province is giving the college $130,000 which will go towards adding 30 new ECE seats.
Walls says there is enough room at the campus to accommodate the extra seats. “We do have the space on campus, but we can deliver through online learning as well so it doesn’t necessarily mean the students have to be here on campus, so it will be a mixture.”
The province says Friday’s announcement was part of their long term plan towards laying the foundation for a universal child care program.
