Fernie residents will start taking out the trash in style this week.
The city’s new automated garbage service gets underway Monday, as the new bins delivered to every home last month will begin to be put to use.
The new schedule will see garbage and recycling picked up only three days a week between Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The City’s goal is to reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries for city staff and make the service more efficient.
WildSafeBC Elk Valley is reminding Fernie residents that the new bins may be animal resistant, but they are not bear proof.
Coordinator Kathy Murray advises you to follow city bylaws and only leave your trash outside on the morning of your designated pick-up dates.
