Fernie Mayor Mary Giuliano is seeking re-election one last time.
Giuliano has served on Fernie Council for the past 16 years, serving three terms on council and two terms as Mayor.
Giuliano says there are a few things she would like to accomplish in a final four-year term, like pushing for Isabella Dickens Elementary to be replaced.
“I’m understanding that they are putting another portable there and that means that there are going to be eight or nine portables there now,” Giuliano says. “The school has totally outgrown the venue that’s there now and I would really like to see that happening.”
She says she will be ready to step down and let someone new take over in four years time.
“There comes a time when somebody knows that its time to step down and let somebody new take over,” Giuliano says. “I feel in four years time, that’s exactly where I’ll be.”
Giuliano’s announcement comes days after Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick announced he would be running for a second term in office.
Elkford Mayor Dean McKerracher remains undecided whether he will run for re-election or not.
No word from other mayors throughout the East Kootenay on their intentions for Election Day October 20th.
