The Cranbrook History Centre is praising a new $300,000 grant for their historic train shed.
The Columbia Basin Trust announced earlier this week they would contribute the funds to a facility housing 28 antique rail cars.
Executive Director Tammy Morgan says the funding helps cover the cost of the project`s first phase.
She adds they still have a long way to go before the entire building will be complete.
“We also have a variety of grants and different things that we’ve applied for. Our projected date for having the first phase completed is the end of October,” Morgan says. “As we gather and raise additional funds, we will continue to cover an additional six cars.”
The train shed will reduce annual maintenance costs for the historic coaches.
Repairs from heavy snow fall cost the History Centre around $10,000 last year.
