Three local RCMP detachments teamed up to stop an alleged stolen vehicle from Saskatchewan.
Columbia Valley RCMP received a report from the Banff detachment last Thursday of a possible stolen blue Dodge Ram with Alberta plates.
The vehicle was reported stolen out of Weyburn, Saskatchewan and the plates were tracked to Okotoks.
Corporal Brent Ayers says police followed the vehicle into Radium Hot Springs but ran into heavy traffic.
“The vehicle definitely knew the police were behind him so he had started to drive a little erratically.” explains Ayers. “[Police] didn’t want it to get out of control so they backed off quite a ways because ultimately in this valley there’s only so many places you can go.”
Cranbrook Police Dog Service set up a spike belt north of Fairmont Hot Springs where the truck blew three tires.
Two men in the vehicle fled the scene. Kimberley RCMP assisted in tracking the suspects that fled the vehicle.
Two men and a woman from out-of-province have been released with their first court appearance in September.
An investigation is ongoing.
