After a decade with the Regional District of East Kootenay, Vice Chair and Area F Director Wendy Booth is looking at a new political stage.
Booth has announced she will not be running for re-election in Area F, as she is considering representing the Conservative Party in next year’s Federal Election.
“That’s part of my decision making in that process. Its something that I have really enjoyed over the years and I will certainly miss it,” Booth says. “I really feel its time to pass the privilege on to someone else to take the reigns for Area F. So I look forward to that happening and in the Fall make a more formal announcement.”
She feels her regional experience could translate well to a national level.
“My approach right now is to actually have conversations with people of the region and sort of get my handle around those issues,” Booth says. “Obviously, there’s larger international issues and relationships with our neighbours to the South, but more locally, there is work that I still need to do to have conversations with people in the area and find out what’s important to them.
Booth was first elected to represent Area F regionally in 2008.
She has also been on the Union of BC Municipalities executive for the past five years, being acclaimed President late last year.
