(By the Broadcast Center News Team) Robin Roo of Jaffray will spend 30 months in jail, and is banned from driving for the rest of his life. That's the sentence handed down this morning in Cranbrook court, for Roo's hit and run incident that took the life of 8 year old Dawson Kormilo. The boy was riding his with friends on the Jaffray-Baines Lake road in September of 2009, when the vehicle Roo was driving came around a curve and struck him. Neighbours ran to the scene and lifted the car off the boy. That's when Roo took off and went to a nearby house, where he grabbed a mickey of whisky and drank a large amount of alcohol out of it along with a beer. Kormilo died a few days later. In May, Roo pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while disqualified and failing to stop at an accident causing bodily harm. In sentencing Roo, Judge Grant Sheard took into account his criminal history and his driving record, which includes 24 motor vehicle offenses. | |
