A proposal for a deck at a Kimberley restaurant came under fire from neighbouring residents.
Owners of the Broken Paddle Diner want to build a deck capable of seating 50 people.
Korene Molloy feels it would increase tourism, as the only patio overlooking the Mark Creek.
“We just want to beautify the area really,” Molloy says. “I think a deck would add that and give our customers an amazing experience sitting on the creek.”
Carol McGregor lives next door and is concerned over the level of noise the addition might create during evenings.
“The deck will be tied to the restaurant and the pub and the pub hour’s are until Midnight during the week and until 2 AM on weekends,” McGregor says. “I’m hoping that the people will work with the neighbours so there’s give and take on both sides.”
City council approved the application, but recommended a plexiglass wall to mitigate noise and limited operating hours should be implemented.
